We started off with an idea tree on the white board, which led us to the idea of making our “Western Bandito Cat Hat”. After we knew what we were making, we started drawing our ideas on the white board. We planned to make a full head piece with cat ears, a cowboy hat, and a bandana. The we started on the prototype. I worked on the cowboy hat, while my other partners worked on the rest of our ensemble. We decided that a full head piece would be to time consuming, so we just made the cowboy hat and bandanna. The prototype turned out very well, so we kept most of the components except the cowboy hat. The reason we did not use the cowboy hat was because the hole on the bottom was to small for a head to fit in. We solved that problem by making the actual hat a ton bigger. After assembling the hat, we decided to add stars and a headband around the side of the crown. Then we attacked the bandanna and finished our project.

I would improve my part of the project, if I did it again, by measuring my circles more carefully so that the prototype would be more accurate. Our group worked together very well except for one member, but he did fine with us.

I feel like I met all the standards, but my worst one was probably the second bullet point of the EVALUATE standard. This is the case because I am very good at following directions, but I am not very good at explaining what I have done with my time. For example, when my mom asks what I did at school I normally say stuff like, “In math today I had a quiz that I think I did well on.” In general I need to be better at describing all things in general.

Process – I started out cutting a large circle to make the base of our ”Bandito Cat” hat. Then I created a circular tube to put on top so it had a crown in the middle like a cowboy hat. I also cut a smaller circle to cover the top of that. When I went to make a design on the hat I cut out two rectangles to make a divot on the top of the hat. This didn’t work out and ended up looking like there was a stretched cat inside the hat. Since I planned ahead, I was able to remove these without any damage. To make up for that fail, I made a little flap on the sides of the cowboy hat to make it feel more realistic. Next, we cut a hole in the base of the hat to allow the head to go slightly into the crown of the hat. The hole ended up being to small, but that was the last day we had to work on our prototype. After that problem, we decided that for our actual hat we would make the entire hat bigger. So we repeated the process with more caution and precision, and it just needed a few final touches. We decide to add a band around the crown, and put stars on it.
Know – I know I will be able to make the base of the hat. I know I can use hot glue to secure small pieces of the hat. I know we will do well.
Want- I want to have an amazing hat that fits well and looks great.
Questions – What could I have done better? What could I have done to make it look better? What could I have done to make it more comfortable?
Purpose – My purpose is to create a piece of head decor that is for someone to wear. (If my group doesn’t want it I might use it for Halloween)
Define your done – When I give my final presentation and the hat looks good I am done.
Inspiration – We decided on our hat purely based on the idea tree we made. I was inspired to wright “cat” on the idea tree because I have two cats at my house.
